Bardhaman is surrounded by rivers in every side. On the east there is The Bhagirathi, on the north there is Ajay and the whole south is outlined by the Damodar. Some tributary and dis-tributary river in the district are Hingla on the north, which is a tributary to the Ajay; Maya, Banka, Behula, Dhuli & Khari are tributary to the Bhagirathi which is the dis-tributary of the Ganga/Ganges.
