CPI(M) MLA Mostafa bin Quasem from Basirhat North constituency commits suicide

Today Mostafa bin Quasem CPI(M) MLA from Basirhat North constituency commits suicide. He was 80. As police report “He jumped from the window of third floor of MLA’s hostel in Kolkata and fell on a tin shed. He is dead.” Police found a suicide note from his room no- 411. Quasem was suffering from kidney disease and was living with only one kidney. Yesterday he went for a medical check-up and doctors found problem in the other kidney also. He also had Urethritis.
Quasem wrote in his suicide note that – “I’m having so much pain in kidney, and there is no reason to live any more with so much pain.”
Quasem was first elected in 1977. From 1991 to 2011 he was elected 6 times in a row as a MLA for CPI(M). Unfortunately we have no reply from any CPI(M) leader yet.
After his death Chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee visited the place. Mamata expressed her deep sorrow to his family and CPI(M). And as she said – “Quasem’s body is sent to Kolkata Medical college for post-mortem, which will be done on highest priority tomorrow morning. After that his body will be brought to the Vidhan Sabha(Legislative Assembly) with complete national pride and then it will be handed over to his family for final destination”. Mamata also added – “I’m extremely sorry to loose an elected MLA even before we met”.
