Kolkata Gets The First 4G LTE Network in India

First 4G LTE service launched in Kolkata on 10th April 2012. 4G or Fourth Generation technology is fast and supports high speed download. First mobile call in India was made from Kolkata by former CM of West Bengal Jyoti Basu. Kolkata is in the forefront once again. Bharti AirTel, the leading telecom company in India launched the service in Kolkata. The company has license of 4 more circles in India. Hopefully, next 4G LTE network will be built in Bangalore.

4G TD LTE (Forth Generation Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution) is capable of achieving up to 100 Mbps down-link and up to 50 Mbps up-link which is more than any previous technology. AirTel was not allotted 3G license in Kolkata but they firmly stuck with 4th generation which is even better than the previous one.

Once the data is downloaded the plan automatically converts in to unlimited 128 Kbps plan. Other two plans are 1399/- and 1999/- per month and supported download are 9 GB and 18 GB respectively. AirTel is making this project in collaboration with ZTE and has brought 4G USB dongles. Right now no 4G LTE supported Smartphone available in India.
