Child health in India is still under critical condition. As per UNICEF – India is among those countries with highest child mortality rate. In 2009 India has a child under 5 years mortality rate of 65.6/1000. That means 65.6 out of 1000 children dies before reaching the age of 5 years. Though it is decreasing sharply for last few decades but it still remains one of the highest in the World.

In 1960′s India has a child mortality rate of about 250/1000 children. Our neighbor countries like China has child under 5 mortality rate of 19.1/1000, Pakistan has child under 5 mortality rate of 87 and Bangladesh has child under 5 mortality rate of 52 per 1000 children. Where as countries like US has 7.8, UK 5.5 has and Australia has only 4.1 per 1000 child under 5 mortality rate.
India ranks 48 in the World for child under 5 mortality rate. But due to India’s huge population the maximum number of death of children occurs in India. In 2009 2,67,87,000 children born in India and 17,26,000 children died before the age of 5 years.

dear sir/madam,let me know the child mortality rate due to vaccine preventable disease in india 2011
Dear sir/madam, let me know the child mortality rate due to PEM in India in 2011.
Anand I don’t think it is possible to get the actual data of child mortality rate due to protein-energy malnutrition. In India our government doesn’t even published the data of population in big cities even after more than a year of census. So don’t expect such data in India.
