Salman Khan the “Bad Boy” of Bollywood is a “Good Boy” for producers and the box office. In last two decades Salman gave many good and commercially successful movies. His last hit Dabaang is one of the highest money grosser in Bollywood history. His second(first in a lead role) movie Maine Pyar Kiya was also one of the highest money grosser at that time. I’m listing 12 of his best movies till date. If you like Bollywood movies or Salman Khan or both then you must watch(if you didn’t) all of this movies.
Maine Pyar Kiya (1989)
One of the biggest hits of Bollywood – the film was released in 1989. Film was directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya. Bhagyashree played the lead female role opposite Salman. The film is a musical romantic film. After this film the name Prem(Salman in the movie) were used in many films for Salman. Suman(Bhagyashree) said the famous line – “dosti mein no sorry no thank you” to Prem in this movie. The movie is about how to young people fall in love and fight for their love.
A musical blockbuster in 1989 Saajan was another mile stone for Salman. Salman shared screen with Sanjay Dutt in the movie. Both Aman(Sanjay) and Akash(Salman) love a girl Pooja(Madhuri Dixit) in the movie. This triangle love-story was backed by beautiful songs like Dekha Hai Pehli Baar, Mera Dil Bhi Kitna, Bohat Pyar Karte Hain, Jiye To Jiye Kaise and some more. This song are still popular even after 20 years.
Andaz Apna Apna (1994)
One of the best Indian romantic comedy ever made. Salman Khan and Amir Khan gave excellent performance in the movie. Salman was named “Prem” again in the movie. Prem and Amar(Amir Khan) are two totally useless son from a poor family. They need a easy way to get rich and so they came out with a idea to marry a rich girl and get rich quick. After that it is a situation comedy film with a great performance by Paresh Rawal. See it to believe it.
Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994)
A family drama that is 206 minutes long created history in the box office in 1994. It was again directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya and Salman played the lead role as “Prem”. Madhuri Dixit. Prem(Salman) met Nisha(Madhuri) on his elder brother’s marriage and after that they slowly fall in love. But the happy romantic situation changes when Prem’s sister in law who is also Nisha’s elder sister died and both of their family wants Nisha to marry Prem’s elder brother. The film is a great family entertainer with (I think) 60 minutes or more filled with nice songs.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)
I believe if you watch hindi cinema then you already watched this movie. Unfortunately if you didn’t the go and watch it now. A beautiful romantic film directed by Sanjay Leela Banshali brought Salman and Aishwariya together on screen for the first time. The film is full with romance, drama, nice songs as well as Indian culture. Its a must watch movie for hindi movie lovers.
Tere Naam (2003)
Possibly the best romantic hindi film with a tragic end. Salman played Radhey who is a leader in local collage and falls in love with an innocent first year student Nirjhara played by Bhoomika Chawla. Radhey became a victim of gang war and looses his memory. Bhoomika Chawla debuted in hindi films in this movie. Songs in this movie are awesome. Tere Naam is still the highest selling music album in Indian history.
Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001)
Another box office hit Chori Chori Chupke Chupke was released in 2001. Salman played the character Raj who’s wife had an accident during her pregnancy and lost their child. She can’t have any child because of that accident. So they ask a prostitute Priya(Preity Zinta) to give birth to Raj’s child. What happens next? better you watch the movie 🙂 .
Garv: Pride and Honour (2004)
The film is all about the fighting of a police officer in Mumbai against the under world and politicians. This is the first complete action movie for Salman as well as his first movie as a police officer. Though the film is not as good but if you like Salman then you may also like this movie. Shilpa Shetty played the female lead role in the movie.
Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004)
A romantic comedy by Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Sameer(Salman) is some one who can’t control his anger and falls in trouble because of his anger. Sunny(Akshay) who is Sameer’s childhood friend tries to help him. Sameer falls in love with Rani(Priyanka Chopra) but Sunny came between them and make Sameer’s life bitter. Amresh Puri’s performance in the movie is quite good too.
A great comedy film directed by David Dhawan. Salman is named “Prem” in this movie again. Govinda was relaunched in this movie after a political break in his career. Salman and Katrina Kaif acted for the first time in the same movie though she played against Govinda and Lara Dutta played against Salman. Bhaskar Diwakar Chaudhry (Govinda) who is a poor guy who loves his boss Priya(Katrina) and he approaches Prem the “Love Guru” to fix his picture in Priya’s heart. Good script and Salman’s presence make the movie fun to watch.
A typical Bollywood action movie where Salman played a role of a undercover police officer who works as a underworld shooter to shoot criminal. Some cool stuns and action sequence with the face value of Salman Khan made this movie a box office success. “Ek bar jo maine commitment kar di toh main aapne aap ki bhi nahin sunta” is a very famous dialog from this movie.
The biggest box office money grosser in hindi film history. The film has nothing new or unique in the story. The same 1980’s masala movie formula distributed in a new package. Chulbul Pandey(Salman) is a corrupted police inspector in Uttar Pradesh. The film is all about comedy and Salman Khan’s face value. Sonakshi Sinha daughter of Satrughna Sinha debuted in this movie against Salman.
That is my top 12 list for Salman Khan movies. Other movies like Khamoshi – the musical, Hello Brother, Pyar Kiya Toh Danrna Kya are also good movies.
